Why?

According to the St. Louis Children's Hospital "Community Health Needs Assessment Report" there are fourteen top priority health needs in our community. Among those needs are four that Delta Dental Health Theatre works to meet: dental health, healthy literacy, nutrition and weight, and fitness. Delta Dental Health Theatre educates children and the community on the importance of overall health and the steps that are needed to take in order to achieve optimum health.

According to the CDC "tooth decay is one of the most common chronic conditions of childhood in the US" and in the past twenty years, obesity in the US has dramatically inclined. Approximately 12.7 million children and adolescents aged 2-19 are obese.

Delta Dental Health Theatre believes that knowledge and play is power! While childhood obesity, tooth decay, and other health issues caused by poor diet and lack of exercise increase, we believe that kids deserve the opportunity to make their own choices regarding their health, and we strive to inspire children to make healthy choices so that children won't face a life uncomplicated by health issues that are easily preventable with proper education. Plaquey Wacky 5K and Obstacle Relay is another way to promote and inspire health in a fun way.

What?

Delta Dental Health Theatre is currently raising money to support our overall health program (Youcan Toucan) that educates children in our community on the importance and proper way to take care of teeth, nutrition and exercise, along with raising money for ten new and exciting evidence based health programs that expand on health education. A couple examples of these programs are: Bozo's Big Bowel Movement, where the kids are educated all about the digestive system and how eating healthily plays a big role in the proper functioning of it; HW! Double Dare, a game show that takes participants through six body part and systems including the bones, muscles, the heart, the lungs, the stomach and the kidneys, explaining how they function and how eating healthily, exercising, drinking water and an adequate amount of sleep each night helps the function of these systems. All ten programs are educational AND fun, which we believe is the best way for kids to learn, and then apply the newly learned knowledge to their daily lives.

How?

We are currently raising  money through our event Plaquey Wacky obstacle relay and 5K race taking place Saturday, June 20th, 2015. We will apply the money that is earned through it to support scholarships to under served schools in our community along with support for our newly added ten fun, exciting, hands on and evidence based health programs.

We ask you now to please join our cause and sign up a fundraising page today.
